Good atmosphere in the group enhances speaking English

We started the day with the camp Olympics, these are daily activities where two teams, formed by the kids, can gain points and exchange them for “money” for the casino the last evening. The challenges started with simple games but got more difficult quite fast. The last object they had to fulfil to get a point was that they should build something to protect an egg from a fall from the first floor. The different materials like wool, paper and balloons were used wisely and formed kind of an airbag. One group was so fast, they even had time and materials left to decorate their protection system for “Eggy”. After competing against each other, the 11 youngsters had to act as whole group and show their skills in different experiential education games. They did very well and mastered them in record time!

We can already notice an improvement on how much the different kids speak in English and how well they are doing. After Lunch and Dinner, everybody remained seating at the big, long table they arranged it like that on their own! And there were multiple discussions being held in English. This shows that the cohesion in the group is very good and they feel at ease with each other. One girl even volunteered for being the narrator for the game “werewolf” we played in the evening, so she had to speak for almost a whole hour and lead the game, she did a great job. The table tennis rounds we played afterwards were also accompanied by cheering in English.
